CHARITY NOW DORMANT

On the 31st December 2006 the Prism Project was put into a ‘dormant state’, and in order to comply with company and charity law no further annual donations of books, tapes or CD’s will take place to the 140 prisons we were supporting throughout the UK.

Last package to UK prisons in December 2006

It was 17 years ago in 1989 that the charity was established and during this time a new books and audio tape donations has been undertaken in each year, along with an extensive book recycling campaign.During the last  3 years a large number of CD’s have also been donated. All the material we have sent has been of a self-help, positive thinking and spiritual nature and we are proud, that during this time, in excess of 100,000 books, tapes and CD’s have been donated to prison libraries, education departments and drug rehabilitation units all over the country.

The programme has produced a steady flow of letters from prisoners asking for help with many issues, controlling anger, dealing with depression and anxiety and building self-esteem come high on the list, and from feedback we receive from the material we have sent, we have found that it has aided many of them to make a life change and hopefully not re-offend on release.

Of course none of this could have happened without the help and support of members of the public who have donated books, volunteers and dedicated staff, a very big thank you goes out to all who have supported this important work over the years with the provision of books and financial donations.

During 2008 we will continue to keep our PO Box open as a regular flow of letters continues to be received from prisoners asking for help with many of the above mentioned issues. We will answer all of these letters and we will continue to send books and CD’s for as long as they are available.

THANK YOU to all who have and continue to support this very valuable work.
